I know exactly what you mean about the porn thing and I'm always so, so glad when somebody tells me the characterisation's still clear. It can so often turn into like, nameless faceless smut, but that's so boring! And basically pointless. So yeah, I'm pleased about that. And while reading this, I grinned when you called Freddie an 'angsty, solipsistic bastard', hahaha, so true. I was actually most worried about his characterisation because I don't feel much interest in him at all and didn't know if I was writing him how other people saw him or not.
I actually write threesomes strangely often, and when I want to put the focus on the relationship between the two boys when it's m/m/f, I always, ALWAYS worry that it's going to seem like the girl's just kind of THERE for no reason. And even though with this, the point was really Effy being the catalyst, making Cook and Freddie realise their feelings, I didn't want to just shove her aside once things were getting started.
Also so glad you picked up on that bit with Freddie looking around, I considered getting rid of that bit altogether because I wasn't sure if there was much of a point to it, but yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking--it was just a way to show how little he knows about her despite him acting differently.
