Everything you have said is brilliant, really; but, what I do want to quote from you is this:
"That when you're dealing with Nick and Joe exploring each other sexually, what it sort of comes back to is what do you reap when you sow the oats for your children to be not only sexually repressed but also sexualized as their identity. From the ages of 16 and 13 for Joe and Nick their lives have centered around people WANTING them. At first it was like, 'omg, they're so cuuuuuute!" And now it's...still that, but it's more than that. And they squirt white foam on their fans. And they aren't allowed to go more than a day without having to talk about their virginity. And they're forced to be these perfect unwavering unfailingly GOOD boys.
So...you know. I don't know. I have a lot of feelings about this and in relation to the way they were raised and the confined, insular nature of their formative adolescent years. AND THIS SORT OF PERFECTLY CAPTURED EVERY THOUGHT I'VE EVER HAD ABOUT THAT."
AGREED. AGREED. ELEVENTY-TRILLION TIMES AGREED. I cannot begin to tell you how often I mull over such thoughts. It is these thoughts - I'll be honest with you - that drew me to the Jonas Brothers in the first place. Not their music. Not even their looks (well...that attraction quickly followed suit. haha!). Just the thought they were so cloistered from life...from living. They still are, and it's sad, I feel. It's fics like these that make me ache all the more for the day that they will break free of the chains of Disney, Ma and Pa, those damned purity rings, and the sugar-pop lyrics they are contracted - or, dare I say, VOWED to spew. I can see Nick yearning to make the music he truly desires to make, all soulful (I need a thesaurus -- MY GOD, I've wrung this word dry today) and raw honesty - raw feelings. Unafraid and unashamed to be "inappropriate." That would be a most delicious day indeed, non?
