There's this Kills interview I saw a while ago and then lost, and I've been trying to find it again to show
alliean for ages. And I finally found it today!
This is the link. the Kills part starts at about 8:00 for their performance of 'Cheap and Cheerful', and then the interview is at about 10:50.
IT'S REALLY QUITE AWKWARD. Foreign interviews often are, and the dude keeps translating things back and forth, and he also asks some pretty bold questions. And I kind of hate that, because I don't like seeing them get uncomfortable, but at the same time...the reactions are so interesting. First of all I love how embarrassed Alison gets when he tells her Brian Molko said he got hard listening to her voice. And how she just kinda hides in Jamie's shoulder and behind her hair. I THINK SHE'S BLUSHING. So cute.
But the real point of posting this is that I kept referencing the moment where they're asked if they're a couple. Jamie laughs when the guy says "but you're not a couple, you're not in love?" and then realises no one else is laughing, and apologises. And Alison says "What's so funny about that?" and the guy agrees, saying "What's so funny? It's possible!" Jamie says "It's a ridiculous idea," and then immediately follows that with a ridiculously loving look at Alison. OH JAMIE. SO IN DENIAL.
Mainly I just love that Alison questions him, even though she does it in a kinda jokey way. It's like - they never discuss this in their day-to-day life. They're only confronted with how weird their relationship seems when other people comment on it. And that's like...the only chance for Alison to see how Jamie reacts to the idea, and vice versa. It's so interesting, because to us, their sexual tension is so obvious and the love they have is so intense, that making the mistake of thinking they're a couple is completely understandable. But from where they're sitting, it's apparently a surprise, and strange. Funny and ridiculous, even.
Though I think it's denial, to a certain extent. I think Jamie's genuinely afraid to let himself go down that route, to really think about it. Because their relationship works, as it is, and maybe they think that if they do anything to change it they risk losing each other. And I just can't believe they're THAT oblivious to the way they are onstage together. Like, I know Jamie says "I've never seen us play, so..." but then there are things like this:

Which kinda prove that he's at least somewhat aware. But ha, I love how Alison's signature is so bold and confident and Jamie's is this hasty scribble in the corner. And that he seems to have forgotten to use 'Hotel'.
Okay, I've started analysing handwriting, it's time to end this post now.

Date: 2010-09-01 09:23 pm (UTC)Yeah, it seems quite casual, like she's not going all serious or offended or anything. But at the same time, she would make it joke-y, because if she started interrogating him or something, it'd make it obvious to both him and everyone else that she was genuinely wanting to know more about his reaction. You know? And yeah, it does seem like Jamie's 'sorry' was sort of a realisation that laughing about it seems harsh.
It's also really weird how delayed Jamie's laughter actually is. Like, he listens to the "you're not a couple" part and I think says "no" and it's when the guy says "you're not in love?" that he laughs, and even then there's a pause first. It's like he just has no idea how to react for it to seem normal and casual. I feel like if he did feel normal and casual about it, and the laughter was his genuine reaction, it would have come right away? It seemed more like nervous laughter than anything (which ties in with the blushing!!), which he then had to try and explain/cover up.
And yeah, he looks at her like he's trying to apologise and check he hasn't hurt her feelings, but she's already closed off from him, and they don't really look at each other much after that. LOL SOMETIMES IT REALLY IS LIKE THEY'RE JUST TWO KIDS WITH CRUSHES ON EACH OTHER AND THEY WON'T ADMIT IT.
Anyway, I found it by going back to this French forum I thought I might have found it on in the first place (seeing as it's French, lol) and sure enough it was there. That second part of the documentary though, man, idk. I've never seen it uploaded anywhere, like I don't think it was ever uploaded in full. D:
