SO. MANY. SCENARIOS. It is ridiculous, but also amazing. I had a couple of other 'if-Nathan-killed-someone' songs, actually, so...maybe something will happen with those someday. XD
You said not to say anything but I can't not say anything, but I don't wanna express my full excitement for fear of jinxing it because I totally get that, so um. REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY? What, I don't want that. That sounds weird. Don't write it. *cough*
Srsly I keep thinking about the idea where Nathan is their unsub and Reid maybe used to visit him at the institution for a bit and then started writing to him, but then they gradually lost touch, and so when he finds out it's Nathan he's just completely - like it's not even just falling apart because it was Nathan, but he has to deal with all the guilt, like the fact that he saved Nathan's life and made this possible but then also maybe if he'd kept in touch with the kid this wouldn't have happened, etc. But maybe he starts out in denial and he's dealing with the entire case really badly and sympathising with Nathan way too much, and Hotch has to intervene. WANT WANT WANT.
YESSS I thought at first that when he says "so you just go to lectures like that for fun?" it was weird because it sounds sort of judgemental, like, "you weirdo", you know, but actually THAT IS THE KIND OF THING THAT REID DOES, so he's probably secretly hoping maybe Nathan is like that too, and ugh, it's like - of everyone on the team, Reid's the only one who seems to enjoy learning about serial killers in his own time? And he's so used to people thinking he's a freak for that, and then there's this kid...and god, yeah, the sudden switchover from him seeing it as "hey, a new friend :D" to "wait this guy might be a suspect." And he totally could have caught up with him, you're right - I think he doesn't really want to believe it, the entire episode, even when everyone else is considering him as the unsub Reid is like "noooooo."
GOD and that bit when Garcia says it's not his job to hold Nathan's hand through this, and REID MAKES A COMPARISON TO HIS MOM, and essentially says that he thinks if he could just understand everything there is to know about Nathan because then he might be able to fix him. ;_; And then after the evaluation, he's so jittery going to ask Gideon what he thinks, and the way his face just FALLS when Gideon tells him. Aaaaand when they're in the church and Reid says he has to bring Nathan in as a suspect and you can tell he's hating every second of it and Nathan is like "you gonna cuff me?" and his voice just sounds so broken and Reid looks up at Morgan as if he's saying "do I have to?" but then Morgan just hands him the cuffs. :'(
