OMG IMAGINE IF HOTCH ASKED NATHAN. YES. Like while they were interrogating him, maybe? And the others are like, hey, that's not vital to the investigation Hotch, that's his personal life - but Hotch just can't leave it alone. Because he has to know. (And like, the others are WORRIED, but they approach it differently, and like they're not so desperate to know as Hotch is, and maybe they haven't seen the way Reid looks at Nathan or heard the way he talks about him as much as Hotch has.) And yeah, Nathan would just be like "...no" but he'd want to know what made Hotch ask that, because maybe like, Nathan has had a crush on Reid from the very beginning, but he never saw Reid's reciprocation of it because he's too like, self-loathing? Like, he could never imagine anyone could love him, let alone someone as smart and wonderful and good as Reid. And he interpreted all of Reid's help as like, pity.
And so he's like "hooooold up, what made you ask that?" And Hotch is feeling kind of embarrassed for getting it all wrong and storming in there and confronting the kid, so he's trying to shrug it off like "just the way he talks about you" and tries to change the subject. But the way Nathan reacts tells him all he needs to know, and like, now he really HAS to keep Reid and Nathan apart, and he tells himself it's all for Reid's safety and for the sake of the investigation, but deep down there's jealousy, too.
.......on a happier note though OMG THAT LITTLE BIT OF FIC, YESSSS, UGH I LOVE YOU. Just the mental image of Anton curling up in MGG's bed the morning after and PUTTING ON HIS SHIRT, that shirt (and lol I could totally hear his comment about it in his voice, too) and MATTHEW MAKING PANCAKES and all the sock stuff ughhhhh they are too adorable.
