Auuuuuuuugh thank you so much for these comments, you are wonderful, thank you. ♥ It was especially lovely to get them NOW, because it's been so long since I posted this, and it was like, a late Christmas present or something.
I quite like that you could forget at times that it was based on The Dreamers, and then something would come along and remind you. That's how I felt as I was writing it, strangely. I could get so caught up in their little world that it seemed like a separate thing, and yet the bits that were more Dreamers-y still tied in quite neatly. Which is kind of amazing because it just seems so UNLIKELY, and I kept thinking, this can't REALLY work, I must be making them seriously OOC or something without realising it.
I really love what you said about their relationship feeling real in the same way the movie one did, and also what you said about the scene with Ben. I was apprehensive about having to switch POV when it had been completely Will's up until that point, but then as I was writing it I realised how important that was, to see the relationship through someone else's eyes. I really love that it worked for you, it sounds like it had the EXACT effect I hoped it would.
I was so iffy about dialogue from the movie too because I didn't want to just steal all of it and also I felt that most of it wouldn't even WORK. And I sort of didn't want it to distract from everything, like if you were reading it going "heyyyy that's a line from the movie!" constantly, that would be jarring. But yes, I'm glad that you liked what I did use. And aaaaall the other things you said, thank you, this is the nicest comment ever. ♥ I love to hear about the little details that people like, but I also love it when someone really explains how a fic made them FEEL, and the overall effect of it, so that really means a lot. I'm really, really glad that you liked it so much.
