Wasn't it 'cause when Lucy, Edmund and Eustace went into Narnia through the picture they got a nice sea-dunking and so had to borrow clothes while theirs' dried or w/e, and obv the only clothes on board would be Man Clothes and Oddly Small Man Clothes ergo Lucy being outfitted in non-female attire.

... Okay now I am thinking there should be fic about something to do with clothes-sharing. Like Edmund being all 'Caspian's Narnia clothes are so much more comfy and Narnia(=love)-like than my starchy 40s clothes and they smell so good and you know come to think of it Caspian smells good too...'
