I know, you had it sorted.

Ooookay. I've kind of been putting this off because the AMAZINGNESS OF PRINCE CASPIAN CANNOT BE ACCURATELY TEXTUALLY RENDERED, but right now I'm feeling more relaxed than I was after both the premiere and going to the cinema last night, so I'm going to finally give this entry a go.
First of all, it was so good to finally be able to see it at a regular cinema. Because obviously the premiere was a completely amazing experience, but it was so amazing that my head was kind of all over the place by the time the movie even started. And it's not like I didn't take anything in, it was just...I dunno, it took me like half an hour to calm down and everything, and I remembered scenes all out of sequence and stuff.
I don't even know where to start. I guess the most important this is how fucking awesome Edmund is. Like, I knew that already because people had said so, but I didn't know quite HOW awesome. When he had a good line or did something cool, near the start, I was like "oh, that must've been what people were talking about!" but no. No. HE IS LIKE THAT THE WHOLE MOVIE, AND IT IS JUST...*FLAILS* AMAZING.
Not only does he have those badass moments like:
- leaping in to save Peter in the fight at the beginning
- sliding down the roof
- falling onto the griffin's back
- saving everybody from the White Witch
BUT, he has all those great snarky lines! Like:
- "We are talking to you" in response to Susan's "Quick, pretend you're talking to me!"
- I know, you had it sorted." ♥
- "Well, I didn't exactly have a solid gold chess set in Finchley, did I?"
- "It's King Edmund, actually. Just King, though. Peter's the High King. (...) I know, it's confusing."
- "So you're bravely refusing to fight a swordsman half your age?"
- "I'm older and I don't think I want to understand" after Susan kisses Caspian. This line made me want to MARRY him right then and there, trufax.
I just. I can't even. WHY IS HE SO AWESOME. It's even better because Edmund has ALWAYS been my favourite character. Like I know he's the one everybody hated in LWW, but I honestly always liked him. I like, literally had arguments at school with people over him, because people would always be like "HE IS AN EVIL TRAITOR" and like...yes, he made mistakes, but I totally understand why he made them? It makes perfect sense to me. It's not like he KNEW what he was doing, and the moment he figured it out, it was fine.
Anyway, though. WHAT ELSE. I absolutely love the role reversal between Peter and Edmund. Like, I honestly love that Peter is such an ass and is convinced he knows everything when actually practically everything he says is wrong. I still love Peter and everything, I just love that he's like that this time for some reason. I guess because it gives Edmund the chance to KICK ASS. XD
ALSO, and this is a big deal, I DID NOT HATE SUSAN. I have always hated Susan, particularly in LWW. There are certain lines of hers in LWW that make me, like, clench my fists. I adore Anna, as you know, but Susan just drives me crazy. But in PC! SHE DOES NOT AT ALL! I love that she gets to fight. Anna was explaining why they put that in, in an interview, and it does make a lot of sense -- they needed all the help they could get, why would they not let her fight, just because she's a girl? So I'm glad that they had that in there and it didn't seem totally unbelievable.
One of my favourite scenes in the whole movie is the bit where she sends Lucy on ahead because they're being followed, and she just stands there in the woods and it's all quiet, and she just calmly shoots man after man...it's just so so cool. I love that it's so, like, calculated and calm, not a huge crazy battle type thing. I don't know.
And Lucy! I still can't get over how much Georgie's grown and I'm kind of accepting that I might never, because pretty much every time I see her I have that same reaction. I love the way Lucy like, pounces on Aslan when he turns up, because THAT'S TOTALLY WHAT I WOULD DO, and actually what I really wanted to do, because he just looks so fluffy. XD I also loved the whole thing with her and Trumpkin, because it was adorable. :D
Umm. Lolol I was just like "right, so that's the characters?" and then remembered Caspian. MY LACK OF INTEREST IN BEN BARNES, LET ME SHOW YOU IT. *cough* So yeah...I don't know. The first time I saw it, I laughed EVERY TIME HE SPOKE for at least the first...third of the film. My sister did too. I CAN'T HELP IT, THE ACCENT IS RIDICULOUS. But THEN, I did get over it. And didn't pay attention to it anymore. And when I got home, the trailer came on TV and I didn't laugh at his "I am Prince Caspian" line (for the first time EVER) whereas my Mum cracked up and was like "I see what you mean about the accent." I guess I just got used to it, because I didn't laugh this time around either.
Also, damn you
diskoandlace! I think I told you this last night on MSN, but seriously, your obsession with Ben is like...contagious, or something. I honestly paid him no attention during the premiere, but this time? I KEPT GETTING DISTRACTED AND NOT LISTENING TO HIS LINES. D: It wasn't like, THAT often, just every now and then there would be a certain shot where he'd look really, really good and I'd be like *stares* "Wait, what?" ACK.
Okay! Now onto the slashy stuff for a while. I can't possibly not mention the best exchange in the entire movie, which is:
(Edmund is examining Peter's dislocated arm)
Peter - (gazes lovingly at him) "You know, you've always been there, and I've never really--"
Edmund - (fixes arm) "Save it for later."
!!
!!!
THAT IS SO NOT A BROTHERLY CONVERSATION. "You've always been there, and I've never really--" WHAT.
thisissirius and I have decided that Will was totally bleeding into his character there, and Skandar was like "DUDE SAVE IT FOR LATER IN OUR TRAILER" and everybody on the crew was oblivious and thought it was a sweet, brotherly moment, so they left it in. AND ONLY WILL AND SKANDAR KNOW THE TRUTH. AND ALSO ANNA, BECAUSE AS WE HAVE ALL ALREADY DECIDED, SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING.
But no, seriously. That line makes me want to squee and bounce up and down in my seat, which is INAPPROPRIATE. ALSO, the intense look they share before they go into battle properly! Please know what I'm talking about!! It's like, Edmund draws his sword and then looks at him and it's just this BURNINGLY INTENSE LOOK, and just. GUH. Even my sister picked up on it at the premiere and was like "What was THAT about?"
Also, I really need someone to clear this up for me. When they first get to Narnia and run into the sea, Peter yells something, and I listened really hard last night but I still couldn't quite catch it. All I can pick up on is "Bet you can't [something something] than me, Ed!" Is it honestly something to do with taking their clothes off? What? "Bet you can't shed your clothes faster than me, Ed!"?? SERIOUSLY? IT IS AMAZING. THEY HAVE STRIPPING COMPETITIONS, IT'S A FACT.]
LOL ALSO, IN MY LIST OF EDMUND LINES, I FORGOT "I'M NOT HOLDING YOUR HAND". HEE, OMG. I LOVE THAT LINE. WHATEVER, EDMUND.
*attempts to calm down*
Right. What else.
Onto more mundane things (although everything is mundane when compared with Peter/Edmund):
- For SOME reason, I never pictured Reepicheep that big. Even though, like, Liz reminded me that he's even bigger in the book. My sister didn't either, and we think it might be because the talking mice in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (which we are obsessed with) are regular sized mice, so we probably just pictured Reepicheep the same. IDK. But it freaked me out when he leapt onto Caspian's chest and was like, the size of a small cat. ACK.
- Speaking of Reepicheep, EDDIE IZZARD. HOW AWESOME IS THAT.
- Lolol when Aslan does the ~magical breathing~ thing near the end, my sister whispered to me "Mmm. Lion breath." and I'm pretty sure it's ruined that scene for me now, because last night I just dissolved into giggles at that point.
- WHEN PETER SNEAKS UP ON LUCY AND COVERS HER MOUTH, I LEAP ABOUT A FOOT IN THE AIR. WHAT. THERE IS NO NEED FOR THAT.
- I really hope other people who perve over Skandar thought this too, the scene where they're all asleep and it keeps showing Edmund's profile in the foreground because he's lying on his back? Um. PRETTY.
- Will looks RIDICULOUS sword-fighting.
windingarrow, you warned me about this, when I was lol'ing over his facial expressions in some of the pictures, but like...seriously. His face is made for pretty gay smiles! Not grimaces! It just doesn't work! I do love his fight with Miraz, though. EVERYONE in the cinema at the premiere CHEERED when he stabbed him, which was pretty cool, and Anna said "Will, wherever he is, is probably grinning all proudly like 'ohhh yeah' right about now." XD
- When a bunch of the Narnians get trapped behind the gate, it is just. ACK. SO SAD. :'( I hate that bit. When the minotaur finally can't do it anymore and collapses, and Peter is looking back behind him but there's nothing they can do. :( :(
- I squee'd like an idiot when I realised the White Witch was going to turn up. I CAN'T HELP IT, I LOVE TILDA SWINTON, OKAY. I was all "Yaaaayyy!" while everyone in the cinema was like "OMG NO!" and I had to be like, right, it's bad. BAD. But HOW AWESOME IS SHE. "Peter, dear. I missed you." ♥ And I LOVE how Caspian gets all entranced and stands there like a fool with his arm out, and Peter comes running in, pushes him away, and then starts to do the EXACT SAME THING. Lolllll.
- Speaking of that scene, that fucking hag will give me nightmares. I COULD BARELY WATCH THE SECOND TIME ROUND. She's so scary! And her voice! Augh. *shudders*
- FOR ASLAAAANNNNNN.
- The battle scene wasn't as cool as the LWW one (which, btw, is one of my favourite scenes in any film ever - sometimes I just put on the battle scene to watch without watching the rest of the movie, it is that awesome) but it was still so cool. I loved the bit where the ground basically caved in. And the sudden silence when the arrows go flying.
- When Susan was yelling to the other archers what to do and everything, I got kind of turned on. *shifty look* ANNA IS HOT, OKAY. WE ALREADY COVERED THIS.
- Lololol the whole Phyllis thing amuses me way more than it should. Geek: "What's your name?" Susan: "Phyllis." Lucy: "SUSAAAAAAN!" Ahahahaha.
- EDMUND AND HIS TORCH. I FORGOT ABOUT THAT, HOW COULD I. Hahaha, Peter trying to be all cool and tearing his shirt (actually, that bit was pretty cool) and then Edmund is like "Oh, I have this torch, will this do?" and it's just. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. And then everything he does with it. And the line at the end which they kept true to the book!! Which is just great. :D
- I liked that they didn't SHOW Aslan when Lucy first sees him. I don't know why. I just always thought they would, and it was interesting, and worked better. And Edmunnnnd, when he sticks up for her and is like "Last time I didn't believe Lucy, I ended up looking pretty stupid." EDMUND, MY LOVE. ♥
- LOLOL THE TELMARINES MARCH SO SLOOOOWLY. Anna pointed this out and would not stop giggling, and once I pointed it out to Liz at the cinema, she did the exact same thing. They take such tiny steps!! It's hilarious. Anna was like, god, they'd get there quicker if they just walked at like a normal pace. XD
OKAY.
Also the song, the Regina Spektor song at the end, oh, my god. I can't even express this. The lyrics fit freakishly well, and the song is so beautiful and so sad, and I cried at the premiere although I think that was partly because the whole experience was so overwhelming and omg I sound so pathetic now but SERIOUSLY. In the book I never paid it much attention that they go DIRECTLY from all of that excitement and battle and everything right back to the tube station where they have to GO TO SCHOOL AND HAVE AN ENTIRE ORDINARY DAY. D: I can't even. Wouldn't you just be like "Actually no, can I go to bed for a while please?"
I honestly just tried to explain my whole feelings about the song and that scene and everything but I can't do it, I hope some of you kind of get what I mean, though.
I only have one big problem with the movie. (I have a couple of tiny ones, like how little backstory there is about Caspian and everything, but I understand why they had to make it the way it is because it really would not have worked for them to be like HAI, HAVE SOME FLASHBACKS. It would just have brought the whole thing to a bit of a standstill and felt so out of place.) SO YEAH. It's the Susan/Caspian stuff. WHICH I would have had a problem with no matter how they'd done it, and I'm okay with admitting that.
BUT it was the way they did it. It was so lame! It was so like, unbelievable. I can just about accept why they put it in (unrealistic that they wouldn't have feelings for each other, etc) but it was done in such a half-arsed way. Like they thought "What? We have to put a romance in? Oh, all right. *sigh*" There are like, a couple of significant glances, and that lame line about the horn, and then it's like KISSING OUT OF NOWHERE, IN FRONT OF A GIANT CROWD OF PEOPLE. D:
A couple of people at the premiere behind us were like "AWWW" and Anna and I were like "GAG". It's just, blech. And yeah, I know I would've hated it whatever they'd done because I think the whole idea is stupid, but it was just...even stupider than I expected. AND, I kind of think it was OOC for Susan? Not for her to get a crush on him, but for her to do anything about it. I would imagine Susan being like "Oh, he's attractive! But this can't work out, so I should ignore my feelings completely and get on with the more important things." You know?
Anyway, I could rant about that for hours, but really it was my only big problem with the film and it definitely hasn't stopped me loving it (clearly!) so I won't say anymore about it.
THIS ENTRY IS RIDICULOUSLY LONG, I HOPE AT LEAST ONE PERSON HAS READ IT. IT'S JUST, I CAN'T HELP IT. MY LOVE FOR THIS MOVIE, IT IS UNDYING. I NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN IMMEDIATELY.
I am going to leave you with this LWW .gif:

Date: 2008-06-28 08:41 pm (UTC)firstly: when i saw it the second time (i think?), during the campfire scene, i turned to my friend and said 'omg, are you staring at edmund right now?' and she's like 'NO, i'm staring at susan's boobs' and i cracked up, because YEAH, THEY'RE HUGE.
and during the siege, where anna just takes the arrow and stabs a bitch, that was like my second favorite part of the whole movie. possibly first. because GUH. HOT. i love that she fights in this one, it just adds to it wonderfully.
i thought that the little trumpkin and lucy bit at the end was adorable as well, but my sister was sitting beside me going "lol, pedophile," and i had to hit her.
and bwahahah fig. i love your big long narnia posts!

Date: 2008-06-28 08:47 pm (UTC)YES when she takes the arrow and is like, who even NEEDS a bow, it's like...AMAZING. And so hot for SOME REASON.
I also lol'd at 'lol, pedophile' because MY SISTER DID THAT TOO. I didn't mention it, but she kind of muttered "what, creepy" and I was like "SHUT UP, IT'S SWEET."
I think it's a problem I have with 'f' and 'g' in general, but 'fig' is the most amusing mistake I've had so far. ALSO HI, AND THANK YOU FOR READING THIS, I always worry that I ramble too much and people are like "dude, calm down."

Date: 2008-06-28 10:15 pm (UTC)ehgfrhjkghdkjghdk. WILL WAS TOTALLY BLEEDING INTO HIS CHARACTER. HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER D:
I'm gunna have to do my own review after this but !!!!!!! Edmund DID KICK ASS so much and SUSAN! I LOVED THAT SCENE IN THE WOODS D: the bit when Lucy looked back at her damn near broke my heart! the way she just looked back and they both knew that it might be the last time they met and susan! she was so strong. it makes me ache to know what happens to her in book seven because !!!! no one that cool should be left out of the final book D: and just, the way she seeemed so sad when she was talking to lucy about narnia and she was all while is lasts. she wants to be there, she's just too knowledgable to know that it won't last and she'll end up like Peter ...
Speaking of whom... AH! i just can't get over my Peter thing. me and my friend argued about this ebcause she was all HE'S A BASTARD but i could see where he's coming from, you know? he expected aslan to just be there and he's full of all this worship and need and there's nowhere for it to go. suddenly, there's this guy in narnia who's taking his place and leading his people and he knows storming the castle is a bad idea and he knows he's done wrong but he can't help it because he's flailing and out of his depth and i like to think that's why edmund stands by him so much. because he knows too and he just -
neither of them know how to do it, so peter fights and edmund is just there for him.
oh, lc. i have to write about this soon D:
LUCY! ASLAN! EDMUND!
but i cannot like ben barnes :( not even if i try!

Date: 2008-06-29 02:36 am (UTC)I KNOW, YOU'D THINK WILL WOULD BE SMARTER THAN THAT. NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING.
Ack! The bit with Lucy looking back! I didn't mention that. That was so sad. D: Aaaand I know what you mean about the last book, too, because I never really cared before because I always hated her so much, but nowww. :( It's just all different. And everything she said about Narnia and knowing it wouldn't be like that forever, and how it took so long for her to even accept that they were in Narnia again because she was so scared of having it taken away again. Agh.
And yes! Agreed on all counts re: Peter as well. It's easy to write him off as a bastard in this movie but there's obviously a lot more to it and I'm actually glad they put in the sort of rivalry between him and Caspian that wasn't in the book, because it works, and it makes so much sense. Of COURSE he'd have that reaction to it.
And YES, you do have to write about it.
DO NOT TRY TO LIKE BEN BARNES. I didn't try and it just started HAPPENING, beyond my control, but no one should ever TRY. ;)

Date: 2008-06-29 04:18 am (UTC)I LOVE YOU FOR SAYING THIS. It's just so completely them and their dynamnic in this movie, and you've described it perfectly.
ALSO THIS: he's full of all this worship and need and there's nowhere for it to go. Because I've been getting the impression that most people just think he's being a jerk, and like you said, I can see that, but THERE IS SO MUCH MORE. "Full of worship" is perfect because it's like, Yes! And it explains his attitude so much more if one can look that far into it.

Date: 2008-06-28 10:30 pm (UTC)omg i agree with you on like everything!!! bwahahahahahaa
THE TELERANINAS MADE ME AND MY BRO THINK OF 300 we were like "this is SPARTA!....wait...we're in Narnia...wrong movie...."
and I TOLD YOU ED WAS A BAD ASS MOTHER FUCKER FOR AGES! everything about him just defined my life on so may levels of awesome....im so glad you've seen it now so we can rant like loons
when i heard that regina had WRITTEN A SONG for the PC i think i actually cried with joy...but the switchfoot song gets more recognition than hers and they only use it in the credits! aweful....pooooooooop
well i love you
and OMG
on a kinda narnia related topic
I SAW WANTED LAST NIGHT AND NOW I REMEMBER WHY I LOVE JAMES MCAVOY AS MUCH AS I DO...BECAUSE HE'S ALMOST AS BAD ASS AS EDMUND!
ooohhhh yeah i was like oooooh pretty when it did the profile shot of him sleeping AND i KNOW that Will should stick with the pretty boy faces not growling in anger....i fell out of my chair during the epic sword fight with miraz from laughing so hard and only got to see the full fight the second time because i was crying the first go round.
im still stuck on Ed's bad assness, personally.... ^_^

Date: 2008-06-29 02:40 am (UTC)Lol at the Sparta reference. XD And YES, I can't get over how BADASS EDMUND IS. He is just. WOW. I knew he would be awesome, but I didn't think he would be THAT awesome, idk.
And the Regina Spektor song is BEAUTIFUL and should def. be getting more attention than the Switchfoot one, so agreed there.
I can't see Wanted because I totally can't deal with gore (or Angelina Jolie, hahaha) but I want to because of Jaaames. ♥
I'm glad you thought the same thing about Edmund's profile while he was sleeping lol, and Will's face. XD Poor Will. He's just not really made for angry growling.

Date: 2008-06-28 10:51 pm (UTC)EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING

i don't remember which showing it was but the person next to me was like, 'dang...the army walks SOOO tiny! they won't get anywhere THAT way!!'
hahha
after the midnight premier, my friend took me home and we were discusing peter/will. and i was just like. DUDE WHEN DID EDMUND GET SOOOO GOODLOOKING???!!!

Date: 2008-06-29 02:43 am (UTC)LOL at the army thing, seriously!! It must have taken them HOURS to get across that field!!
I always knew Skandar was going to get good-looking XD but seriously, still haven't gotten over the HOTNESS.

Date: 2008-06-29 04:11 am (UTC)OKAY. I WILL ATTEMPT TO REPLY SOMEWHAT COHERENTLY NOW.
EDMUND EDMUND EDMUND EDMUND OMFG HE IS SO FULL OF AWESOME I CANNOT EVEN COPE. I am SO GLAD you know this and share it and understand like, the complete SCALE of the love I have for him and how ridiculous it is and how much I want to basically just flail about it all day long. I realise this is not coherent at all, but did I mention how it's 5am and you're leaving me???
And YES he did not have enough lines. Didn't notice that the first time, but I realised how little I heard his voice the second time and that is a CRIME because there is one thing we do not mention enough about Skandar and it is his beautiful beautiful voice. ♥ MOAR LINES IN DAWN TREADER, PLZ.
AGREED ON SUSAN AND HER ARROWS (AND HER TITS, WHILE WE'RE AT IT) AND BIN BONS'S HILARIOUS ACCENT.
And they WERE totally about to make out! THEY COULD SO HAVE LEANED IN FOR THE KISS RIGHT THEN AND THERE. And I am SO SAD that they didn't buuuuut it's okay because you just KNOW Will and Skandar had post-scene sexings in their trailer. *nods* SAVE IT FOR LATER INDEED.
AND I'M SO GLAD YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN ABOUT THE INTENSE LOOK, I WAS WORRIED I WAS TOO VAGUE. AND THERE ARE A LOT OF INTENSE LOOKS AND THEY ARE ALWAYS DIRECTED AT EDMUND AND NOT CASPIAN OR AT LEAST, MORE OFTEN. OR MORE INTENSELY. OMGWTF I AM NOT MAKING SENSE OKAY LET'S MOVE ON.
The stripping line! I lol'd at your reaction because it was like IDENTICAL to mine except that I couldn't say anything out loud because I was like, with family and all. XD AM SO GOING TO PAY EXTRA SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THAT PART NEXT TIME AND WORK OUT WHAT EXACTLY HE SAYS. IT IS VITAL INFORMATION.
Will and his fighting! I feel bad making fun of him because, well, it's WILLMO, but also because he's so, like...I know how much he loves the stunts and stuff, and it's not that he's BAD at it, it's just that...his gayness will always shine through, okay. You can dress him up in armor and give him a sword and everything, but...you know. DOESN'T QUITE WORK.
If I knew Sadie, man, and she was doing a hag impression, I would be fucking terrified. JUST SAYING. That was SCARY STUFF.
AGREED ON THE FOR NARNIA/ASLAN THING. LIKE I GET THAT IT'S A BIG IMPORTANT LINE, BUT, LOL. ALSO YES THE BATTLE WAS SO CLEVER, I LOVE ALL THEIR AWESOME STRATEGIES AND LIKE
I know what you mean about the song. It's beautiful but I can't listen to it, really. I don't, anyway. I always want to, but
no subject
Date: 2008-06-29 04:15 am (UTC)...I always want to, but I feel like I would get too emotional and start thinking about the movie and it would make me cry and then I would feel like a loser.
It was like OH BTW *KISS*, totally. I mean, I knew there was going to be a romance so I picked up on the ~glances~ and things, but if you didn't know, pretty much the only hint you'd get was the dumb horn flirting, and even that could be taken differently. Like it was just her little sister teasing her for sounding like she liked him or whatever. So yeah, dumb.
SKANDAR'S PROFILE = ♥ I actually, weirdly, have noticed this before, and I'm glad they decided to highlight it for a good few seconds this movie. Although I can't even remember what was actually going on in the background of that scene because I was too focused on his face oh dear, obviously I need to see the movie again, whatever shall I do.
I WILL TOTALLY PUSH YOU OFF A BUILDING IF THERE IS NO FIC WHEN YOU COME BACK. THE ONLY THING THAT WILL MAKE ME FORGIVE YOU FOR LEAVING IS FIC. PREFERABLY INVOLVING SKANDAR IN GIRLS' CLOTHING. WHICH WILL SOUND TOTALLY STRANGE TO ANYBODY READING THIS, BUT I DON'T CARE, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
YES IT IS. XD

Date: 2008-06-29 03:37 am (UTC)I LOVE the fight at the start. The Edmund awesomeness, the look Susan gives Peter, and also strangely I like seeing Peter get hurt - it's more convincing than him beating someone else up lol. IDK why, cos I love Peter.
OMGOMGOMG WHY DOES HE WIN SO HARD?!
See I started out loving Peter & Willmo, and then like mid-LWW season I was like ...wait. OH HAI EDMUND!!! And everyone sort of hated him and I was like COME ON HE'S AWESOME and now everyone can see his AWESOMENESS. =D
YESS I love it cos I got a bit sick of Peter being perfect (partly why I jumped on the good ship EDMUND) and seriously, being High King for 15 years or whatever and then being a schoolboy (an an effeminate one at that lol) would fuck you up. So the whole time Peter's like trying to make up for this huge guilt he feels about leaving Narnia, he feels like he has to fix it but he's going all wrong, but GUH. It is so good.
Susan kicking ass in battle doesn't really go with her 'Gentle' title lol, but the book was written in one context, and these movies are being made in another. Woman can join the army now and all that. When CS Lewis wrote the book Susan fighting would have been extremely unusual. So I approve of this change. =D
YESSSSS The pre-battle INTENSE LOOK and I was like "OMGOMGOMGOMG THERE WILL BE POST-BATTLE SEXINGS." and the "You've always been there" thing, I like, exploded on the inside, and then of course Edmund is all teenage-boy about it, no touchy-feely business for him, thanks and it is FANTASTIC. And Will's awful smile for the Narnians, when Ed's like "Keep smiling." OMG it is such a grimace and it's funny and horrible and sad all at the same time.
ACCENT = LOLZ
I KNOW! I got SUCH a fright at sneaky!Peter! But srsly, wtf Lucy, don't just keep wandering off! Every time they're not watching her she's wandering off into dangerous situations!
YESSS Sleeping Edmund is adorable and sexy and oh GOD he has a gorgeous nose in profile and his eyelashes.... and MANLY sleeping poses, unlike Peter lol. Susan's boobs in that dress are also distracting, and he skin is all creamy and stuff. STUFF LIKE THIS IS WHY I NEEDED TO SEE IT MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY'RE ALL SO PRETTY I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO LOOK.
LOL Willmo. And all the grunting ARGGGH noises he was making...the whole thing was kind of hilarious. And LOVE the Bear in that scene!!! The whole time he's in the background being ADORABLE.
:( Minotaur OMG SO sad I almost cry at that bit. And Peter's so stricken, and you can see Glenstorm's son behind the gate and then it goes to Glenstorm and Susan and Glenstorm just looks down, he knows his son's going to die and there's nothing he can do and just GUH. And then when they get back he looks at his wife and she starts crying :( :( :(
The Hag, UGH. That is some terrific physical acting, though. Me & my friend got out of the cinema and then we were all imitating her and saying how creepy it was and people were giving us the strangest looks cos there were 5 of us all doing hag walking impressions LOL.
LOL I KNOW! The Telmarines and their tiny steps, I was like WTF they're never going to get there at that rate! No wonder the Narnians had time to prepare such an elaborate battle plan LOL.
I would go to be for like, a week.
As I said in my Journal when I put my thoughts on the movie, "Caspian/Susan lack of chemistry FTL." I mean, come ON. It was SO forced. I didn't mind that he liked her, that was realistic, but she TOTALLY didn't seem into it for prettymuch the whole movie until he rescues her (the 'you might need to call me' seemed retarded because like 4 seconds before that he's giving her these lovey dovey looks and she's like ignoring him)and then all of a sudden she's so SAD about leaving him and I'm like BITCH PLZ.
OMGOMGOMG DID YOU SEE THE BEAR WAVE AT THE END? It's in the shot where the Pevensies look back at Aslan et al, the bear does this tiny wave and OMFG CUTEST EVAR.
no subject
Date: 2008-06-29 04:27 am (UTC)EDMUND MAKES ME FLAIL LIKE A CRAZY PERSON. I HONESTLY WAS ALL MOPEY OVER THE FACT THAT HE ISN'T REAL, WHEN I GOT HOME YESTERDAY. MY DAD WAS LIKE "WHATEVS YOU CAN STILL HAVE SKANDAR" AND I WAS LIKE "OBVIOUSLY I'M NOT GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT, BUT *SIGH* EDMUND IS SO COOL."
The fight at the start kind of told me I was going to love this movie, like, as if I didn't already know that. IDK why. Partly (and this is going to make me sound like a creeper) because it was like...boys fighting, and it was kind of, you know, WILL fighting, with boys, and omg I don't even know but it was kind of hot. :/
YES agreed on all counts re: Peter going from king to effeminate schoolboy. I'm so glad they addressed how much that would fuck you up. And idk, I'm weird and I liked seeing him all out of his depth and confused and torn between, well, everything, and just. IT WAS JUST GOOD. I DON'T EVEN KNOW. I HAVE RUN OUT OF ADJECTIVES AND ADEQUATE EXPLANATION, IT IS NOW 5:20AM, JUST BEAR WITH ME.
There's a bit, I think I said, where Anna explains their thinking behind the whole Susan-in-battle thing and it does make a lot of sense and didn't bother me even though it wasn't in the book. It definitely works and she KICKS ASS, so, you know. No one can complain.
POST-BATTLE SEXINGS FTW. DEFINITELY HAPPENED. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. And I love Edmund's reaction, I love it even more than if he'd been all soppy like "I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE, AND SO HAVE YOU, AND I LOVE YOU" because that would have been totally OOC for one thing, and, idk, I just love how (like you said) teenage boy he was about it. Like the holding hands thing. It just makes me love it more. AND YES @ THE SMILE-GRIMACE. IT IS AWFUL BUT FUNNY, I DON'T KNOW HOW.
I lol'd at what you said about sneaky!Peter and wandering!Lucy, because it is true. And that sleeping scene is like, the most distracting thing ever. HOW are we supposed to even know what's going on when Anna is there with her creamy skin and her huge boobs and Skandar has his beautiful profile and his NOSE which is gorgeous and I'm glad you said that, and just...seriously what even happened in that scene, I will never know. I also DID NOT notice Peter's sleeping poses, will check them out next time and probably laugh at him.
YOU KEEP MENTIONING THE BEAR AND I KEEP FORGETTING TO LOOK OUT FOR HIM. I EVEN REMEMBERED THE WAVE AND THEN FORGOT AT THE LAST MINUTE TO TRY SEE IT, GAH. I'M GOING TO HAVE TO SEE THE MOVIE AGAIN, WHAT A SHAME.
Basically agreeing with all the sad faces re: night raid/Minotaur death/crying etc. :( It is awful.
I honestly laughed out loud at the hag impression thing because the mental images I have right now are AWESOME and just, ahahahahaha. It was great acting, though, definitely. But I feel for the kids in the audience because if WE were freaked out, they are gonna be scarred for life.
LOL at 'no wonder the Narnians had time to prepare such an elaborate battle plan'. I'm imagining them all hanging out and like, discussing it and drawing plans, and every now and then someone is like "Telmarines getting close yet?" and someone looks up and is like "Nope, still miles away." XD
TOTAL LACK OF CHEMISTRY WITH THE CASPIAN/SUSAN. CASPIAN HAD MORE CHEMISTRY WITH BOTH PETER AND EDMUND THAN SUSAN, SERIOUSLY. SO FORCED. SO THROWN-TOGETHER. SO AMAZINGLY LAME. Stupid lovey-dovey looks and ~significant glances~ which nobody would even pick up on if they didn't know to look for them, and just, blargh.
DAMMIT THE BEAR, I WILL REMEMBER NEXT TIME OMG.

Date: 2008-06-29 03:51 am (UTC)ANYWAYS.
the main thought going through my head as i exited the theatre was WOW LOTS OF PRETTY BOYS. i mean skandar? no longer a skinny twig. now he's more of a lovely slender, and that HAIR. good lord. i love it. plus the thing with the witch ("I know--you had it sorted") was so LOVE. i cheered. could not help myself.
will--that boy has always been beautiful and always will be. the part where he looks back at the gate when they're retreating from the castle... the tears running down his cheeks. and that part where peter and caspian are yelling at each other after the retreat and his eyes are so BLUE and OKAY STOPPING NOW.
and ben? i hear a lot that people don't like him. i liked him right off--i LOVE the new angle and dynamic he adds to the pevensie four as caspian. in the first film, we got to know those kids, and now with caspian added it just changes things up so totally. especially the caspian/peter conflict. when i read the book, i never thought caspian would just do whatever peter says. they're both teen guys--they're going to have a bit of competition between them. nicely done.
and how caspian was so emo about the "augh i want to save my country and be the king but i don't know how! i'm so misguided and lied to! where do i turn?" was just the littlest bit sexy. littlest bit.
plus ben has very nice eyebrows.
anna was near perfection is this. she looked so good, and kicked some serious butt! whoa! the part where the wall breaks and she falls GAH, NO DON'T DIE SUSAN. her whole internal struggle with narnia vs. england...
THE PETER/MIRAZ BATTLE WAS MADE OF WIN. so gladiator-esque, clanging and grunting and yelling in agony. woo. intense. got my heart rate up.
i totally agree with you about the caspusan thing--whaaat? sure, they can flirt ("you might need to call me!") but kissing? in front of the remainder of the telmarine population? WHOA NO BABY.
okay i think i'm going to stop now before i get totally out of hand.

Date: 2008-06-29 04:35 am (UTC)Yeahhh I know what you mean about only being able to concentrate on the pretty boys at first. I think that's how I was the first time, I could hardly take anything else in for the first half of the movie. I was just like SKANDAR, I WANT YOU IN ME PLEASE, and then I was like "Wait, what's even going on?" and it wasn't good. The bit with the Witch was just AMAZING and I will never, ever get over it. GOD WHY IS HE SO AWESOME.
The bit where Will looks back at the gate is just...I can hardly watch, the look on his face is so heartbreaking. And his eyes! And his lips, they always seem to distract me for some reason, like whenever he's not speaking or yelling or, like, grimacing or growling during battle for no apparent reason.
It's not that I don't like Ben. It's not that at all. It's more like...ack, it's complicated. It's just, I guess I feel a sort of duty not to care about him because my allegiance lies with Will and Skandar, you know? I've been in the fandom for so long that it's like WTF NEWCOMER, BACK OFF. And actually it's only been recently that I've been watching him in interviews and he seems like such an amazing, charming, sweet and funny guy. And so I feel really torn about the whole thing, hence my totally weird comments about him all the time.
I agree completely about the Caspian/Peter conflict and how well it works. I thought it was totally unrealistic for Caspian to be like "okay whatever you say", in the book, and it actually works way better this way. And yeahhh I kind of get the slightly-sexy emo conflict. Kind of. OMG I HAVE TO STOP SAYING THESE THINGS ABOUT BEN. NOW YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN.
ANNA, OMG, ANNA. HOW DID I NOT MENTION WHEN SHE NEARLY FALLS, ACK. MY HEART WAS IN MY THROAT.
YES, THE BATTLE. YES EVERYTHING. LOL I AM JUST AGREEING WITH YOU ALL OVER THE PLACE, THIS COMMENT IS POINTLESS.
Didn't so much mind the flirting with Caspian and Susan (CASPUSAN LOL) but yeah, it was the kissing IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY WTF. I knew they kissed, and when it got to that point my sister was like "oh, maybe they won't kiss because everyone's around now..." and I was like "but they DO, and she's leaving, so it MUST be now, and...wtf". It was just WRONG.
FEEL FREE TO GET OUT OF HAND, BB, I AM GETTING RATHER OUT OF HAND MYSELF.

Date: 2008-06-29 04:54 am (UTC)I don't even need to start on EDMUND OMG because we all know how amazing he is. But really, he stole this movie, for serious. Like, there was Peter's inner turmoil and everything (which, yes, LOVE) but then there was Edmund. And yes, massive role reversals and I loved that, too.
SUSAN. So, it's not that I've ever really liked or disliked her, I just don't think I ever really cared that much. I was too concerned with everyone else, and I just left her to drift away from Narnia and didn't look any further than that. I don't think Lewis gave her any depth (not like he was fantastic about that with anybody, mind) and there was never any intrigue there. But Anna and these movies have made her such an interesting character, and one that I can really sympathize with for the first time. Her whole, 'not wanting to settle down and be happy because it's going to be taken from her again' is probably the saddest bit about the whole getting-shuffled-back-and-forth thing. And it isn't like it's not sad for the others, but like, whereas Peter's situation is EPIC, Susan's is just HEARTBREAKING. And the movie really makes it easy to understand her attitude later in life, and to like her as a person/character way more. Okay, wow, moving on...
Oh, the Peter/Edmund. That exchange, holy crap. I squeeed like an idiot, and my sister was all like, "What?" and I'm like, "Don't you SEE IT?" and she's like, "Um. No." LOL about the character bleed. "Later in my trailer," HAHAHA. And the stripping contests, and the Looks,
Oh, Bin Bons. There's nothing there. It's not even that I didn't like him in the movie (with the exception of the accent, because that never stops being awful/hilarious) I just don't care.
And Jadis, omg, when Peter pushes Caspian out of the way only to do exactly the same thing, I was first like, "WTF Peter?" because regardless of his Character Issues, I think that was taking it a bit far, and then it was like, "Edmund. ♥ times a billion."
The torch line at the end made me so happy. I LOVE when movies do that, end the same way, and the only other one I can recall is Return of the King.
YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE MUSIC.
The way you lay out their return, like pointing out that they have to go immediately back to school, just killed me all over again. I'm still so stuck on aftermath, and that did not help. Speaking of aftermath, what did you think of Peter's fight? (Besides that Edmund was awesome, because he was totally FTW in that scene). Because I adore that bit to death, and want to discuss it, lol.
OKAY, this has gone on long enough. I'm stopping now. That .gif is ADORABLE.

Date: 2008-06-29 09:56 am (UTC)I have always liked Edmund too! Even in the books, and in LWW, I maybe wanted to punch him, but I still liked him. He made some stupid decisions, but he had reasons for them, and I get thse reasons and just, gah. People who automatically dismiss him out of hand beucase omg he's a blood traitor annoy me like no other.
And EDMUND EDMUND EDMUND in this movie, omg. THE TORCH. THE ENTIRE GRYPHON SCENE. Where he is stuck, and I literally was on the edge of my seat, because they're through the door, and then he just gets that cocky look on his face and falls backwards off the tower and OH MY GOD DON'T DO THAT TO ME! And the TORCH. THE LINE ABOUT THE TORCH, I AM SO GLAD THEY KEPT THAT IN. AND JUST, EVERYTHING ABOUT EDMUND.
I sometimes wanted to hug him becuase of ow precious he was being, and ten other times I wanted to, uh, do other stuff with him. HE IS SO BAD ASS IN THIS.
He just! "I KNOW, YOU HAD IT SORTED." (TILDAAAAAAAA! OMG) and yes, hsi pretty pretty profile when they're sleeping.
SPEAKING OF THAT SCENE. BOTH TIMES, I nearly fell out of my seat when Caspian jumped out at Peter and they start fighting. The second time I dropped my popcorn, even though I knew it was coming. He's just sneaking towards the minotaur and then Caspian comes out of no where HOLY GOD, and then they fight and he has a rock and omg.
SUSAAAAAAN. She is my favourite in this film. I admit in the books, I kind of wanted to punch her in the face and I didn't like her, but this film has REDEEMED HER IN MY EYES. I am so glad they got her to fight as wlel, because dude, why wouldn't she be fighting? Narnia is equal opportunity. SHE IS O BAD ASS. When they're all riding towards her and shes just shooting them? And the scene where she just STABS A GUY WITH THE ARROW? And the final battle, where she's just shooting poeple and has a whole circle of dead guys around hEr bcasue she is so deadly, and she hits people with her bow and just. WHEN SHE IS DANGLING OVER THE EDGE OF THE FORTRESS THING AND SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE'S ABOUT TO DIE.
Anna looked ridiculously throughout the entire film. Seriously, even with all the boys in the frame, my eyes were drawn to her.
Speaking of all the boys. Even I will admit there was something about that scene where Edmund fixes Peter's arm, and the look they exchange.
Peter. In this film. I wanted to punch him in the face. "Im High King Peter. The Magnificent." And he's so right! But only in his own mind.
CASPIAN'S ACCENT AHAHAHA. I still don;t understand why they made the Telmarines Spanish. What's up with that? Ypu could tell that it wasn't Ben's real accent, some times it dropped a bit. But even so, a little way into the first viewing of the movie, I totally forgot about the accent because damn, BEN IS HOT. AND A GOOD ACTOR.
He made a really good Caspian, I think.
This is kind of extremely long and I have to go eat dinner, but yes. YES TO EVERYTHING YOU SAID IN THIS POST. I want to go see it again now.
I FOGROT ABOUT SOMETHING, SORRY.
CASPIAN/SUSAN. WHAT. It amde no sense whatsoever. Sure, they might be attracted to each other
not as much as Peter and Caspian, butBUT IT MAKES NO SENSE. Apart from the fact it wasn't in the books (grr) BUT THEY'RE NEVER GOING TO SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF KISSING HIM. SUSAN KNOWS BETTER.And the castle gate scene made me cry. Peter just looks back and there's that centaur who just looks at him, then nods and turns around to try and kill some more Telmarines before he dies. Gah.
Also, the talking bear. "For Aslan!" And how HE WAVES AT THE END, AWW, HE IS MY FAVOURIE.
no subject
Date: 2008-06-29 03:26 pm (UTC)THE SONG. I'm so glad you started to cry too, I felt like such a dork. But like...ack, I don't even know what it is. It just fits so well and is so sad and makes you really think about how it would be, and it's awful. :'(
YES. It drives me crazy when people just immediately go "Oh yeah, Edmund's evil" without even thinking about it. He did some bad things, but he isn't a bad person. And it just makes it even more awesome that I always stood up for him and now he's so COOL.
OMG THE FALLING FROM THE TOWER IT IS TOO AMAZING I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE IT. THE LOOK ON HIS FACE AND JUST. ASKASLKA,LSAS. WE ARE BASICALLY AGREED ON EVERYTHING EDMUND-RELATED AND COULD PROBABLY SQUEE ABOUT IT FOR DAYS ON END.
LOL @ you dropping your popcorn, but srsly I know, omg. IT COMES OUT OF NOWHERE.
SUSAN IS SO BADASS. WHEN SHE STABS THE GUY WITH THE ARROW, OMG. SO BASICALLY AGAIN, AGREED ON EVERYTHING SUSAN-RELATED. AND SHE'S SO HOT, I WAS STARING AT HER JUST AS MUCH AS THE BOYS.
Lol HOW did I forget to mention Peter's "I'm High King Peter. The Magnificent." line omg. LOVE Susan's reply, "You probably could've left off that last part" ahahaha, take that Peter. XD
I have NO clue why the Telmarines are Spanish-sounding, but there's got to be some explanation out there. I really don't know. And yeah, he did drop it a couple of times. It was just ridiculous, but whatever, it adds some hilarity so I don't have a problem with that. And YES, Ben is hot, wtf.
YES, SUSAN WOULD SO NEVER KISS HIM. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH HER WANTING TO, BUT YOU JUST KNOW SHE WOULD BE RATIONAL ABOUT IT AND IGNORE HER FEELINGS BECAUSE IT WOULD BE SILLY TO KISS HIM RIGHT BEFORE LEAVING. ACK. I WILL NEVER STOP FINDING THAT STUPID.
Castle-gate scene is awful, so so heartbreaking omg. I can hardly watch it, the look on Peter's face just kills me.
I keep missing that damn bear's wave, I need to keep my eyes peeled for that next time. XD

Date: 2008-06-29 10:15 pm (UTC)When Susan was yelling to the other archers what to do and everything, I got kind of turned on. *shifty look* ANNA IS HOT, OKAY. WE ALREADY COVERED THIS.
I THINK MY ANNA LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDS. also wtf, they had her wearing these dresses in, like, every scene that all made her boobs look enormous. not that i'm complaining, of course XD
ROFL I LOVE YOUR PETER/EDMUND OBSESSION. before i found you i had no idea of the willslash phenomenon. but after seeing a few interviews yeah, i know what y'all mean! so exciting. ohhh will, you were totally ~subliminally~ communicating your love for skandar.
i want to see this movie again. every day. guhhhh.

Date: 2008-06-30 07:16 pm (UTC)I HAVE READ THIS AND AGREE WITH EVERYTHING COMPLETELY, ESPECIALLY ABOUT SKANDAR, AND ESPECIALLY ABOUT WILL AND SKANDAR.
WHEN PETER SNEAKS UP ON LUCY AND COVERS HER MOUTH, I LEAP ABOUT A FOOT IN THE AIR. WHAT. THERE IS NO NEED FOR THAT.
I KNOW. I HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE THREE TIMES AND EVERYTIME I JUST WANT TO EDIT OUT THAT MOMENT MYSELF BECAUSE IT JUST GETS MY BLOOD ALL A'GOING FOR NO REASON.
YES. YES THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. OH YOU BOYS.
OKAY, I'M GOING TO STOP OR I'LL END UP QUOTING THE ENTIRE THING AND I JUST LEFT A COMMENT ON YOUR NEWEST FIC SO I'LL SEEM LIKE A COMPLETE WEIRDO (AS OPPOSED TO JUST SLIGHTLY) IF I KEEP GOING. (I PROMISE I'M NOT! WELL...)
(ALSO, I LIKE CAPS.)

Date: 2008-06-30 07:45 pm (UTC)I AM GLAD YOU AGREE WITH EVERYTHING, THAT'S ALWAYS GOOD. AND I DON'T KNOW WHY THAT BIT IS SO SCARY BUT OMG I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO MAKE ME JUMP EVERY TIME. AND YES, WILL/SKANDAR, THEY ARE TOTALLY DOING IT.
YOU DON'T SEEM LIKE A COMPLETE WEIRDO. AS YOU CAN SEE, I LIKE CAPS TOO.

Date: 2008-07-02 09:07 pm (UTC)this is a big deal, I DID NOT HATE SUSAN. I have always hated Susan, particularly in LWW
Oh I'm right there with you. Susan was always the character I liked least out of the Pevensie four, but lo and behold, film-version Susan kicks ass! The script + Anna Popplewell has made her likeable, and so this is primarily why the romantic Caspian storyline jars oddly - because Susan is almost completely out of character and this really accentuates it. The OOCness works well for the film and I am not begrudging it at all (because pleases not be taking away my kick-ass!Susan) but it just means that, well, you have to put up with her being OOC. So which is the greater evil?
I just don't know what they'll do with The Last Battle film (if they get there) because I don't want them to kick kick-ass!Susan out of Narnia for all afterlife eternity D:

Date: 2008-07-16 03:19 am (UTC)Seriously, you mentioned everything I wanted to talk about. Always loved Edmund, but the movies have made me NOT hate Susan and really like Lucy like mad too. AND OMG, THE PETER/EDMUND BITS WERE SO AWESOME, AND IT ALWAYS FEELS LIKE NOBODY ON THE FLIST REALLY UNDERSTANDS ME WHEN I GO ON ABOUT EDMUND AND PETER SO THIS IS SO INSANELY WONDERFUL TO READ.
I think I'll need to save this in memories or something *_*
OH AND THE EDMUND AND WHITE WITCH SCENE HAD ME CHEERING IN THE CINEMA HAHAHA I mean, what with Peter and Caspian just standing there staring.
Though the Caspian/Susan thing had me throwing up my hands in frustration 'cause dude, SO WEAK. And I really, really wish they'd cast someone more age appropriate for Prince Caspian (event hough it would have meant a decidedly different movie in terms of feel and relationship building...)
