Skins post!

Okaaay so I just finished watching 3x02 of Skins.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. It was just kind of...idk, there was something MISSING up until the last like, 15-20 minutes or so. It didn't feel like a second episode, it felt more like a third or fourth if that makes sense...maybe just because the first one was such a good start and it really felt like a BEGINNING, or maybe because there was no real transition/explanation in terms of the kids all hanging out together.
Cook still DISGUSTS ME TO MY VERY CORE. Ughh. I did like a few of his lines, like when he walked in on JJ and the prostitute and he was like "Sorry if you're fucking, sorry if you're fucking, sorry if you're fucking!" XD and "You're supposed to be banging her, not canoodling," although that one might've just been because I find the word 'canoodling' hilarious in pretty much any context.
Anyway, just, all-round UGH to him and his character and I DO NOT GET why people are comparing him to Chris and saying he's trying to be the new Chris or whatever. I don't see the similarities! Chris was like a million times more likeable! And more sane!
Also, from the second it started, I was already bored by the whole good-boy!Freddie vs. bad-boy!Cook thing. It's so obvious and cliché and dull. Freddie always having to bail him out of trouble, and eventually saying he's 'done with it'. It's just...so blah. Like Freddie's character in general, tbh. I still see nothing interesting there.
And yet, in spite of all that, I think I ship Cook/Freddie. LIKE MAYBE QUITE A LOT, OKAY. :/ I don't get it either. But I guess there must be SOMETHING that intrigues me about their characters and this whole storyline. And the bit in the shed with the "I fucking love you"? That's kind of all a slasher needs, I suppose. At that point, I paused the video, and went to find a Cook/Freddie community to join. (Psst.
cookfreddie.)
As for other people, Effy is still amazing and gorgeous and I love her. It's very, very weird to see her like, in a group of friends, though. I mean, I know they're not really 'friends' yet but seeing her out with a consistent gang felt odd. I think it's going to be a struggle for me to see her start really caring about people, hahaha. I'm really liking the idea of Effy/Pandora at the moment though, I love the way she sort of looks after her. Like, it's not REALLY 'looking after her' but I liked how when Pandora collapsed Effy was like "Pandora, wake up you silly cow." And when she led her off home. It's sweet.
Speaking of Pandora, I hope she becomes something other than comic relief? I mean, I like her being comic relief, but I want there to be more to her character otherwise it's going to wear a bit thin, I think.
JJ is quickly becoming my favourite out of the new characters. He's just...AWWW. ♥ He only wanted to kiss the prostitute!! And he'd never kissed anyone before. It was so sweet, I love him. I hope he gets to keep a little bit of his innocence. :/
EMILY/NAOMI is going to be interesting, too. I'm excited for that. I want to see more of the twins, I was just thinking it seems like they (and Naomi) didn't have much to do this episode.
So, overall, not hugely impressed, but then, it was a Cook-based episode and I hate him, so I guess that was to be expected. XD
Is that all I had to say? I guess so!

Date: 2009-01-30 10:37 pm (UTC)And yes, we need more of the twins and Naomi. And Effy. People seem to be fond of Pandora, I don't really get it, but at least, she's nothing like Cook.

Date: 2009-01-30 10:46 pm (UTC)I don't feel particularly strongly about Pandora, idk. She can be quite sweet and amusing but that's about it, I guess. I'd like to see more of her, but only if there's more TO her, you know?

Date: 2009-01-30 10:52 pm (UTC)I don't even feel like seeing more of Pandora, really. We need some twincest, though that doesn't really work with the girls' personalities, I think, and some Effy/Emily, because I loved the way Effy looked at Emily in episode 1 and just saw her. And I'm curious to see what they're going to do with Naomi/Emily.

Date: 2009-01-30 10:57 pm (UTC)You're the first person to mention twincest I think, and I totally agree. I think it could sort of work, maybe, in quite an angsty way rather than a we're-twins-we-do-everything-together way. I've been thinking about it, I want to see more of them so I have a better idea of their characters/family and stuff though. And I agree about Effy/Emily, too!! Definitely.

Date: 2009-01-30 11:24 pm (UTC)I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing Effy/Emily. ^_^ Effy/Katie and Naomi/Katie have been mentioned, but not Effy/Emily. Strange...

Date: 2009-01-30 11:34 pm (UTC)Effy/Katie seems a bit random to me, Effy/Emily seems way more obvious.

Date: 2009-01-30 11:41 pm (UTC)And Effy/Emily would be gorgeous! ^_^ I'm usually not into blondes, and Naomi clearly doesn't do it for me. Plus, she's not of the butch type, but she gives off butch-y vibes in a way. I can't explain it well.

Date: 2009-01-31 12:10 am (UTC)Effy and Pandora are soooo Tony and Sid, in terms of one clearly being the dominant one & sort of looking out for the other while also just thinking they're really stupid sometimes. Cook and JJ are also very Tony and Sid, esp the bit in the tunnel where everyone else leaves but JJ just follows Cook like a puppy.
I know everyone loves the Emily/Naomi thing, but from the vibe I've been getting, it seems like Naomi really has no interest. I think she's actually sort of begrudgingly interested in Cook, though she'd never admit it to herself or anyone else. I actually kind of
reallywant to see Effy/Emily. When I was capping to make icons I was really intrigued by the looks Effy was giving her, and how she sort of instantly picked up on the twins' dynamic. Plus, from what I can remember, we've not yet seen Effy with a girl, but, like her brother, I'm sure her sexuality is somewhat..pliable.Oh, and can we PLEASE get rid of this Johnny White guy? He's like Mad Twatter, but (and I didn't think this were even possible) more annoying.
Ooh, must go post my icons! Heh.

Date: 2009-01-31 05:02 pm (UTC)I think Naomi's interested in Cook too, I think she's supposed to be bisexual? I'm not sure where they'll go with that. I'm interested to see what they do though. And I prefer the idea of Effy/Emily too, and I can definitely imagine Effy being with girls.
Ugh, Johnny White is irritating me, too. Hopefully we won't see much more of him.
Ooh, I'm interested to see your icons!!

Date: 2009-02-01 12:49 am (UTC)I wouldn't be surprised if Naomi were bisexual (at the very least I don't think she's offended by the idea of kissing a girl), but I got the feeling that she just wasn't interested in Emily.
icons! whee!

Date: 2009-01-31 03:39 am (UTC)And I didn't like the whole gangster thing. I love Mackenzie Crook but I don't like his role AT ALL. I don't want this season to be all action/gangster stuff- I want it to focus on the kids and their LIVES.
I hope next week is about a character I actually like...
(must get Skins icon)

Date: 2009-01-31 05:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, I agree, and it's played out really because the character's like Mad Twatter from S1. It's boring.

(which is quite a fair amount XD).And yet, in spite of all that, I think I ship Cook/Freddie ... the bit in the shed with the "I fucking love you"? That's kind of all a slasher needs, I suppose.
Y/Y.

I do in fact realise that I have essentially quoted your entire post back to you, but SRSLY BRAIN TWIN. Though I have to say I'm not feeling JJ too much. I mean he's sweet and everything but I'm just not all that emotionally invested in his character yet.
I DO NOT GET why people are comparing him to Chris and saying he's trying to be the new Chris or whatever. I don't see the similarities! Chris was like a million times more likeable! And more sane!
After watching 3.02, I think Cook is actually more like Tony than Chris: he's so manipulative and he withholds LIKE QUITE IMPORTANT INFORMATION from people when it suits him. He looks more like Chris though, and has his nutter/fuck it streak, but super-sized because I feel that Chris would actually get quite a bit worried about Bristol gangsters. And P.S. lololol at Gareth Of The Office the Gangster.
I'm liking the slashing potential of this lot, but I'm not all that bothered by everything else.

Date: 2009-02-02 10:27 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about JJ, I guess my love for him is basically just OMG SO HEARTBREAKINGLY ADORABLE rather than actual interest in his character and stuff. Idk. And I agree with you about the Tony and Cook comparisons. Definitely. Although I don't think he's actually properly LIKE either of them, because obviously, you know, he's a new character and all. XD

Date: 2009-03-12 06:29 pm (UTC)Well, I DID pre order it on DVD. YAY!
So, I'm excited I can finally join the discussions - sadly, I'm a BIT behind I suppose but that won't scare me off. I'm catching up.. just watch me xD
I'll be on to the third episode in a minute.
Just wanted to get off my chest that I def agree with you about Freddie - I find him to be boring, dull and not a wee attractive. I don't even know what Effy seems to see in him (well, maybe she's awesome enough for the both of them! xD)
However, I like Cook. Really. I know I'm about the only one but that's okay:D I mean, yeah, he might be a prick but Tony was, too, and everyone loved him. I think Cook's just a little harder to like / see through but, well, I like him already...
I love Emily. I could really see something happening with her and Eff (if only in fanfiction... which I will check out as soon as I've caught up).
Okay, fine everyone, laugh because I'm still behind the moon. :D

Date: 2009-03-12 07:13 pm (UTC)I'm glad you agree with me about Freddie, so many people seem to really love him and I'm pretty sure it's just because he's attractive, because his personality's really nothing special. And yeah, I don't even find him that attractive. He's pretty in a boring way. XD
I'm starting to like Cook more as the season goes on, so I can kind of understand you there. I like the idea of him being harder to 'see through' in a way. I don't want them to turn him into some poor misunderstood character but I like the idea of the way he acts being to cover up how he feels or something. I don't know, I definitely find him interesting though.
And yay for Emily, she's lovely!
I don't think 'behind the moon' is an expression here, haha, but I think I got what you meant anyway. XD
