So. This is a thing that happened. (At this rate, I should really be doing a Will/Skandar mix? I mean, what even, I've done three Narnia fanmixes in like less than a month and NONE OF THEM ARE EVEN FOR MY OTP?)

And um, just in case you're a normal person who doesn't obsessively follow Skandar and Tilda's "friendship" (idek what to call it, man), that picture on the back cover is there because that is the necklace she gave him when they finished filming LWW. She gave him a necklace. He wore it.

auuuuugh this is so good. I had a quick listen/flick-through the songs and I really liked the feel of it. I loved how there was this air of threat under everything, and even in the stiller moments in the songs, it felt like there was something waiting? And then the faster/louder/harsher songs were like BY THE WAY THIS IS WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON and it made sense, like, that's what their dynamic is, and the rest of it was just the periods in between anything actually happening between them? Like, if they were both just reflecting on it, or if Skandar was just looking at her on set or something, and then the music flaring up was like AND THEN THIS, THIS IS WHAT YOU WERE WAITING FOR. idek I am talking nonsense, but that is what I got from it.

AND THE LYRICS, THE LYYYYYRICS. Particular favourites:

EEEEEE THANK YOU BB. I'M SO GLAD, SERIOUSLY. I WAS SO NERVOUS ABOUT THIS? LIKE I WAS HAPPY WITH IT AT FIRST, AND THEN I WAS ALL "WHAT EVEN IS THIS" AND SO IT MEANS A LOT THAT YOU LIKE IT.

The sort of underlying threat thing is AWESOME and kiiind of what I was going for, I mean I was focusing on lyrics but I did reject songs because they just didn't seem to fit with the sound of things, and I think that whole "nothing is really happening, but oh god there's so much tension that we could SET FIRE ANY SECOND NOW" is totally right. And then I was so desperate to use 'Treat Me Like Your Mother' and I was like, well, this is not electronic/dubstep/trip-hop at all, WHAT DO I DO, and then when I found the Arctic Monkeys one I figured that was of a similar sort of genre at least. And I was still worried that they sounded out of place, so I'm glad that worked instead of seeming like a sudden change in tone.

I WAS ALSO WORRIED THAT IT MIGHT SEEM TOO D/S-Y, like almost cliché? Especially with the Arctic Monkeys song and 'Supervixen', but you quoted those SO THAT IS GOOD. And omg, 'Silent Shout'--I used that for a fanmix once before, so I was iffy about using it again, but it seemed so perfect, the lyrics for Skandar and then the whole creepy vibe of it in general.

I wasn't sure about the Metric song because I've seen it used for a lot of fanmixes, but then I reread the lyrics and found the remix, and it seemed to work so well. There's so much ANXIETY in it, and the 'hard to be soft/tough to be tender' thing worked--especially with the instrumental song. (GLAD YOU LIKED THAT TOO I just liked the title really and I felt like it might be a bit of a cop-out to use one that didn't even have any lyrics but WHATEVS.)

That movie was quite distracting, esp the end.

I love the idea that he still has it, in maybe a keepsake type box? Or maybe he has it hidden away, so he could take it with him to school....I don't have a clue how his college living situation is-dorm/apartment? roommate/roommates? gf? Is he a partier? He seems pretty focused on his studies, at least when he talks about it, but that doesn't mean he isn't letting his hair down, breaking out-if he even needed to do so, maybe his parents didn't have him on a very tight leash in high school (secondary school? sorry, I am probably improperly titling things) He seemed pretty social in high school, dunno if that necessarily means he was 'popular'.

Anyway, I have his image of he & his roommate getting ready to go out-or whatever, & his roomie asks to borrow something, idk what, but he ends up in Skandar's room, gets a bit nosy & ends up stumbling upon the necklace, broken cord, coiled up in the bottom of whatever it was in.
& his roomie is all, 'hey man, what's this?'
to which Skandar replies, quite nervous, 'nothing, put it back'.
which of course makes his roomie curious, 'if it's nothing why do you have it? throw it out' & he starts to toss it in the trash (bin?).
'Wait, stop! Don't!' His roomie laughs & Skandar blushes.
'It obviously means something Skan, who's it from?'
'No one, give it to me!' Skandar tries to snatch it away.
Roomie laughs more, looking at the necklace & then at Skandar. 'Is it from your ex?'
'No' Skandar grumbles, still unable to get it & getting pinker by the minute.
'So who then? Obviously someone special, your "first" maybe?' His roomie winks & Skandar groans.
'NO! Now give it!' He pushes but only gets a hand in the face.
'A crush? Someone you still think about?'
Skandars eyes fly up to his roomies face & then he ducks his head, almost ashamed, the pinkness has spread down his chest. He tries to even out his breathing, he places his hand out, & almost pleads, 'please, give it to me'.
'Fine Keynes but I am making it my mission to find out who gave this to you, maybe I'll start with a call to your sister?' Skandar's eyes widen, then his roomie smirks again 'Worried she'll spill you dirty little secret? Come on man, who is it? It isn't that hottie of a little sister of yours is it? Cause if it is, I can completely understand & would totally look the other way if you want to invite her for a weekend.' He makes some lu-de gestures before reaching out to give Skandar back the necklace.
Skandar scowls, but is relieved when the necklace is placed in his sweaty hand. He reaches for his phone, intent on sending his sister a text, begging her to not say anything if his roommate should call & quickly tucks the necklace back in its resting place.

OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS IDEA. Him still keeping it even after it broke! He WOULD. See, from what I've read about that type of necklace - it's a carved greenstone thing from the South Island of New Zealand where they finished up filming LWW - they're really special, and have all kinds of tradition/mythology stuff attached to them, about how you have to wear it as close to your skin as possible, and if you lose it or it breaks it's bad luck, and you're supposed to give it back to the person who gave it to you if they ask, and it's sort of a "binding force" thing. Which makes it THAT MUCH WEIRDER that Tilda gave one to a thirteen year old boy, but basically my point is: if it broke, he probably freaked out about what that might mean, and so I LOVE the idea that he would want to try and preserve it in some way and keep it close to him. Even at university. ♥

ALSO SKANDAR BEING TEASED AND GETTING EMBARRASSED IS LIKE ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS, SO THANK YOU FOR THAT. And him trying to be all "no it's nothing BUT DON'T THROW IT AWAY."
